Every great mission begins with a simple but powerful desire—to serve God and humanity with sincerity and love. The story of the Holy Family Fathers and Brothers of the Youth is one rooted in this very calling: starting afresh from Christ through Mary.
A Home Built on Faith and Brotherhood
The Congregation is more than an institution—it is a home. Located in Ubahu Okija, in Anambra State, Nigeria, it is a community where priests and brothers live together in unity, love, and mutual trust.
It is a place defined by:
- Peace and spiritual serenity
- Deep communion with Christ
- Strong bonds of brotherhood
- Ongoing formation—intellectual, human, and spiritual
Inspired by scripture—“how good and pleasant it is when brothers live in unity”—the community continues to embody a life of shared purpose and faith.
A Mission Focused on the Youth
At the heart of the Congregation’s mission is a deep commitment to young people. It is a place where every youth is given hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
The belief is simple yet powerful: every young person has goodness within them. With love, guidance, and opportunity, that goodness can grow and shine.
Through its youth apostolate, the Congregation works to:
- Rehabilitate vulnerable youths facing challenges such as crime, drug abuse, and social instability
- Provide counseling, psychotherapy, and medical support where needed
- Promote skill acquisition and job creation
- Engage youths in meaningful agricultural activities like poultry, fish farming, and crop cultivation
This holistic approach addresses both the spiritual and practical needs of young people.
The Beginning of a Divine Vision
The Congregation was officially founded on February 11, 2003, by Rev. Fr. Denis Mary Joseph Ononuju Obiaga, following approval from the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese in September 2002.
What began as a small gathering of passionate young men quickly took shape. The first group of candidates, selected from over 50 applicants, began their formation in the founder’s family home.
In those early days:
- The foundation operated from temporary accommodations generously provided by supporters
- Formation programs began with limited resources but strong faith
- The first novitiate commenced in 2005 after relocation to a permanent formation house
By June 21, 2006, the Congregation celebrated its first religious profession with six candidates—a significant milestone in its growth.
Growth, Expansion, and Impact
From humble beginnings, the Congregation has grown into a vibrant and expanding mission. Today, it has over 60 fully professed members, including priests, deacons, and seminarians in formation.
Its presence now extends beyond Nigeria, with members serving in:
- Various dioceses across Nigeria
- Sierra Leone
- The United Kingdom
- Italy
- The United States
This growth is a testament to the enduring vision of the Founder and the grace that continues to guide the mission.
Looking Ahead with Hope
What started as a small step of faith has become a dynamic and impactful movement. The journey of the Congregation reflects dedication, resilience, and a deep trust in God’s guidance.
As it continues to grow, its mission remains clear—to form men of faith, serve the youth, and build a community grounded in love, unity, and purpose.
Indeed, this is a story still being written—one life, one vocation, and one transformed future at a time.
